Bruges City Information
Before you book your hostel for Bruges (and certainly before you arrive in town!), it's best to understand how the city is organized and how the hostels are situated. Here's a quick look...
City Layout
Enclosed by an oval-shaped canal, Bruges' compact size makes it easily accessible and very walker-friendly. While the train station is located at the city's southern-most extreme, you'll need to head to central and northern Bruges for the action. In the north you'll find the magnificent Belfort (belfry) towers that loom high over the city's two central squares: the Markt and the Burg. Head a few blocks south to the central part of the city and you'll find a majority of Bruges' accommodations, good food (try the mussels), and the museum center.
Hostel Overview
Prices are reasonable, hostels are central and the historic district is easily accessible on foot, so exploring this romantic city, complete with canals and windmills, should be no problem. Beds can be scarce during weekends so book ahead. If you are after a peaceful place to rest your head, quieter hostels can be found without having to trek outside of the city. Do your research and you'll be sure to find a spot.
