If you're looking for a hostel in Paris with any sort of atmosphere or perks, you might want to keep on walking by the Hostel des Bernardins (formerly known as the Centre International BVJ Paris-Quartier Latin). If you're an experienced hosteller that knows they need a bed and not much else, though, the Bernardins could make for a sensible choice, and its ultra-central location might help save money and time.

Located right in the heart of the Latin Quarter, the hostel is close to almost all of the major sights of Paris. Yet you'll have to sacrifice some amenities for this central location: all guests share one bathroom, Wi-FI costs extra and the rooms—which range from singles to 10-bed dorms—have almost no charm to speak of.

In many reviews, guests make note of the simple facilities, but also generally agree that the Bernardins is clean and straightforward. (There are also many complaints about the showers lacking curtains, so be forewarned if you're worried about privacy.)

Breakfast is one of the few extras included in the rate.  Towels can be rented for a few euros extra. Lockers are available. Note that the Hostel des Bernardins has an age limit of 35.
