Free Attractions
You are in luck. Most attractions in Marseille are not so much in museums as they are right outside, one the streets, at the Old Port and on the beaches. This city is more about soaking up the local atmosphere than learning about history in an ancient building with an audioguide covering your ears. That means 'free', folks!
The most popular places for both tourists and locals to walk around is on the shopping street of La Canabiere and around the Vieux Port right at the start of La Canabiere.
The panorama view not to be missed is on the southern hill at the Basilique de Notre-Dame de la Garde. Admission is free. However, you must dress conservatively when visiting: no beach clothes.
