The 160-bed Barcelona Mar, located near the Rambla del Raval in the Barri Gotic, is a central hostel near most of the city’s famous attractions. The neighborhood has a "red-light" aspect, and may appear to be slightly dodgy at night, but for the most part is perfectly safe and full of character. The hostel is wheelchair-accessible, has no curfew, and rents bicycles! Breakfast is included.

West of La Rambla, El Raval is a bustling neighborhood with a pleasing mix of old restaurants and modern cafes. Previously home to the city's poorest, El Raval is a neighborhood in flux, and its seedy side is still apparent, especially after dark. Nevertheless, the hood is a hotspot worth visiting.
