the place was mediocre. good location if you are in panama for only 1 night and want to be in a central business area. but the woman who says she is the owner but isn't, zuly, is totally unpleasant, unhelpful and unprofessional. she had conflicts over silly things with several guests while i was there. she doens't like being asked questions. maybe working at a hostel is not the best place for her. the owner is a german who can't even crack a smile, let alone a "hola" for his guests. there are so many better places. i changed after my second night and stayed 5 nights elsewhere. this place doesn't deserve your business.

Zulys Backpackers Hostel is great-very special but great. Best location in town. Safe, clean and reasonably priced. Close to everything. Friendly helpful staff and loads of information on what to do in Panama. I also booked with them a 5 days trip by boat to Cartagena including 2,5 days in San Blas Islands. The trip with captain Federico was the best I?ve seen during my (so far)12 month travelling. ZULYS is highly recommendable especially if you want to practice your spanish (though of course they speak english as well) as all members of staff speak spanish!
