Located in a building that’s considered a momument, the Cocomama seems to have a hefty dose of personality: cheap and unique rooms are accentuated by the property’s tall ceilings, ample light, checkerboard floors in common spaces and over-the-top chandeliers! And we didn’t even mention location yet. It’s in the southern canal ring, close to lots of Amsterdam action.

Ikea-fied mixed bed dorms and private rooms are decorated in a Dutch-style; all have an en suite bathroom and bunk or single beds. Included in the nightly rate? Linens, a reading light, luggage storage and free Wi-Fi.

The hostel has an on-site kitchen, common room, outdoor terrace and a movie lounge (with DVDs). You can book tours and rent bicycles at the front desk. And if you get thirsty, it’s just a short walk over to the Heineken brewery and “Experience.”
