1 Step From Saint Peter is a hoste-slash-bed-and-breakfast with a rather optimistic name, as it’s actually about a 15-minute walk to St. Peter’s Basilica. It does, however, enjoy some sweet and simple rooms on the second floor of a 1920s-era apartment building and in a central location.

Over eight rooms that vary in size, you’ll find high ceilings, polished original floors, enormous light-filled windows and woodwork. All rooms—from dorms and singles to doubles—have air-conditioning, soundproof windows and a TV. One room offers a balcony (ask ahead). Breakfast is included in the nightly rate.

On-site, there’s a computer terminal with free Internet access (no Wi-Fi), a big-screen TV and rooftop terrace. Guests can use a communal fridge and are given their own key to come and go as they please. Note: You must advise Frederico, the owner, of your arrival time and cell number so he can ensure you gain entry into the hotel. The hotel does not have a reception area.
