OstellOlindo is a bit far-flung—it’s a hefty metro ride into the city center, but just a few stops from Fiera—but still worth a mention for its unique history and cheap rooms. Before becoming a hostel, the Olindo was actually a prominent psychiatric hospital. As such, the décor is on the sparse side and the grounds are mental ward-ish in nature (gates anyone?).

For the adventurous, rooms here are “weirdly cool” (as one recent guest put it). Dorms sleep up to ten people and are either mixed or all-female. Bathrooms are shared. Private single and twin rooms may also be booked; these have en suite bathrooms. Linens are included in the nightly rate.

Going along with its mental-spa quality, the OstellOlindo offers use of its swimming pool and has an ample inner garden. In fact, most rooms overlook the landscape. The area surrounding the hostel is quiet. And if you get hungry, there’s an on-site restaurant, café and a common kitchen.
