I'm definately going to book my hostels ahead when I go to places like Paris, Rome, etc., but do I'd like to have some freedom in my itinerary. If I decide to go to someplace not so popular like Belgium or Austria, is it safe to show up and ask for a bed, or maybe book a few days ahead? I'll be traveling in June.
I've booked the same day and usually found a place. But remember that sometimes you arrive late in a city and it can be hard to find an internet cafe and you just end up wandering the streets looking for something. That totally sucks. xxxw I book ahead when I can. And Austria and Belgium aren't unpopular either--watch it, toomuchcoffee!
I am traveling to europe in april I plan to travel to Londom Armsterdam Madrid Paris and Italy should I book ahead of time and a girl friend of mine told me I needed a ID is this true.
I'd recommend you book your first city ahead of time, but then do the rest of them while traveling. Some hostels require you have a hostels international card, but don't worry if you don't - you can get them on premises. Most hostels don't require one.
I think you should book ahead. Although, it need not be more than a day or two in some cases. I think this site is helpful too. You can book quickly and they send you a confirmation immediately.
